Working Principle

The working principle of ISL6173DRZA-T is that it provides a maximum current and over-temperature protection for sensitive devices which are subject to any power up scenarios. It can be easily triggered by the PWM signal from the controller. After a triggering, it will start the soft-start sequence and then the current will be held for a selectable period (up to 500us). During this period, the device actively monitors temperature and current parameters, such as output voltage and current, overtemperature and shorts. When all the parameters are within the limits, the device will automatically enter the steady state mode and the load would be continuously switched to the steady state supply voltage. In addition, this device also supports an inrush current limiting function which allows current to ramp up to a programmed level when to load is powered up. At the same time, it can perform fault detection and provide isolated overtemperature warning.
