Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) – Gate Drivers are devices used for controlling power electronics used in power control circuits. Gate drivers are used to control and drive the “gates” of power electronic devices like: MOSFET, IGBT, and SCRs. Gate drivers circuit consists of low-side (GROUND) and high-side (Vcc) driver channels. IXDN630YI is a monolithic HVIC (High Voltage IC) and Bidirectional Gate Driver integrated circuit intended to drive two N-channel MOSFET bridge configuration in a "push-pull" topology.

IXDN630YI is used in low power SMPS applications such as Mobile Chargers, Battery Chargers, Point-Of-Load (POL) converters, Motor Drivers and other power control circuits. The single package of IXDN630YI contains two independent gate drivers. It comes in an industry standard NSOIC-16 package, which is protected by an integrated protection feature. Both the channels have the same features and function the same way.

IXDN630YI is designed to drive power MOSFETs with up to 15A peak output current at rise, fall and hold times as low as 45ns. Its advanced low power BiCMOS technology allows this device to deliver higher peak output current with lower power consumption. It is designed for operation of up to 35V for both low-side and high-side output, and has an extended temperature range from -40°C to +125°C.

The unique capability of IXDN630YI is "dual mode" (synchronous and asynchronous) operating, meant for supporting multiple switching requirements. In synchronous mode, two MOSFETs are operated at the same time and this topology offers lowest switching losses. In asynchronous mode, the opposite MOSFETs are driven separately, reducing the send and return path inductance. This feature makes this device suitable for both continuous conduction mode and discontinuous conduction mode operation.

The IXDN630YI has a built-in thermal protection feature to protect the device from short-term over-current and thermal runaway situation. It also has adjustable protection features like enabling/disabling low-side switch drive and its protection functions for output shorted to ground and output shorted to supply. IXDN630YI provides Under Voltage Lockout (UVLO) for both the channels, for protecting the device from any unexpected voltage drop.

IXDN630YI also offers a diagnostic feature for monitoring open/short circuit faults on the output side. This output-side fault-detection (OSFD) circuit constantly monitors the output voltage level of the driver and detect any fault on its output. If a fault is detected, it will issue an alert signal, which can used by the system to perform any required action.
