The power factor correction (PFC) market has seen strong growth in recent years thanks to the increasing demand for higher energy efficiency by the energy-saving machines, such as reduced energy consumption, total cost savings, and efficient power management for charge points and residential areas. The L6562D is a high performance controller IC with integrated power factor correction (PFC) and is suited for CV/CC (constant voltage and constant current) topology. The L6562D has two power MOSFET drivers and two current sense amplifiers. It is suitable for AC/DC applications and can be used in switching power supplies such as AC/DC adapter, LED lighting, home appliances and embedded systems.
The L6562D works by modulating the power switch waveform so as to keep the current flowing through the primary winding of an isolated transformer close to sinusoidal waveform. This phase modulation decreases the harmonic content of the voltage waveform to maintain a power factor of > 0.95. It also increases the input power factor and reduces the total harmonic distortion of the current waveform. The main advantages of the L6562D are reduced energy consumption and improved power management, as well as faster and more precise control.
The L6562D contains a linear regulator that allows the user to adjust the output voltage of the switching power supply.
