Working Principle

The working principle of the L6564D is based on the hysteretic control technique. In hysteretic control, the output voltage is set as a function of an input voltage, and the comparator is used to detect the peak of the input voltage. When the input voltage exceeds the set value, the switch will turn off.The L6564D contains two cascaded comparators with hysteretic thresholds. The first comparator compares the signal from the current-sense resistor, with a hysteretic voltage threshold, and its output then turns off the main switch. The second comparator compares the voltage on the output capacitor with a hysteretic voltage, and its output then turns on the synchronous rectifier. The L6564D then controls the power output of the converter and hence maximizes the power efficiency.
