The LNK305G-TL is a highly efficient AC/DC converter IC designed for offline switching power supplies in both isolated and non-isolated applications. The LNK305G-TL also offers a low standby power consumption and provides all the necessary functions for offline switcher applications such as line and load regulation, startup current limit and auto-restart, over-current and short-circuit protection, and temperature-controlled modulation.

The LNK305G-TL is an ideal choice for applications such as off-line power supplies, off-line access control equipment, computer and telecommunication related power devices, industrial lighting and industrial equipment, air conditioners (power inverters), consumer electronic products, and automobile electronic devices. The LNK305G-TL can also be used in isolation switcher AC/DC circuits.

The LNK305G-TL comprises of a low-power PWM oscillator, an internal error amplifier, a thermal compensation circuit and a reset circuit. The device operates with Quasi-Resonant (QR) operation to reduce acoustic noise, reduce EMI, provide increased efficiency in light-load applications, and reduce component count. The LNK305G-TL incorporates an external bipolar transistor, which drives the main MOSFET and an external sense resistor, which serves as a current sensing resistor for the loop regulation.

The internal error amplifier compares the output voltage of the power supply to its voltage reference. If any discrepancies exists, pulses from the oscillator are adjusted accordingly to produce the required output voltage. The current sensing method loops the output voltage through a sense resistor to measure the output current. If the output current exceeds the current limit, the error amplifier will reduce or shut down the current control.

The thermal compensation circuit ensures a stable output voltage even when the output power increases due to rising temperatures. The LNK305G-TL also offers a programmable soft-start feature which prevents large inrush currents at startup. Furthermore, the LNK305G-TL offers an auto-restart feature which allows the device to recover from an overload or short-circuit fault condition.

The LNK305G-TL is available in 5-pin SOP packages. Its operating temperature range is between -40 to 110 degrees Celsius making it highly reliable and suitable for industrial applications. The device has a wide frequency range of 50-500kHz and features a high efficiency up to 88% making it an efficient and reliable solution for AC/DC switching applications.
