The LNK306DG is a high frequency switch−mode power supply that operates from a standard 9 to 42V input range and provides multiple levels of adjustable output performance and features. It is designed for a wide variety of AC and DC offline and switching applications. The switch−mode topology allows for high efficiency for up to 5A of adjustable output current.
The LNK306DG uses an advanced high frequency switching architecture, which helps reduce the size and eliminates the need for additional components such as output chokes, snubber circuits, and resettable fuses. As a result, the LNK306DG is an ideal solution for space constrained and small form factor systems.
The LNK306DG\'s primary application field is AC/DC offline switcher designs, providing high performance and low cost with extremely small form factor designs. The use of this PMIC in offline switcher designs makes it ideal for a number of applications, including automotive, industrial, white goods, home appliances, lighting, telecommunications, and medical applications.
The LNK306DG features integrated adjustable output voltage and current accuracy, programmable power−on reset circuitry and overvoltage protection, as well as internal voltage, current and temperature signal paths.
Its internal current−sense circuitry enables it to monitor the power−output current to ensure accurate output current. This feature is especially beneficial in applications where the output current must be accurately controlled, such as in medical and military applications. Additionally, the LNK306DG features a low quiescent current of 2.5mA, making it suitable for low–power, battery powered designs.
In terms of its working principle, the LNK306DG uses a flyback topology to convert power from the input DC voltage range to a higher adjustable output voltage. The LNK306DG also supports multiple thermal shutdown and current−sense options, allowing it to protect against over temperature and over current conditions by providing automatic thermal and/or current feedback.
The LNK306DG\'s switching frequency is adjustable over a wide range, allowing users to optimize their design for both power efficiency and noise suppression. The maximum switching frequency offered is 200 kHz, which helps to minimize the overall noise generated by the device.
The LNK306DG is also extremely compact and comes in a leadless 4-pin package. This allows for easy assembly and disassembly and helps reduce the overall design footprint for space-constrained applications. Additionally, the integrated 10–bit DAC allows for precise programming of the output current and voltage, offering a vast array of adjustable output performance options.

Its high level of integration enables it to offer significant cost and power savings through reduced component count and footprint.
