The MCP73827-4.2VUATR is an advanced Linear Li-Ion/Li-Po battery charger controller used in both single-cell and multi-cell applications. This charging controller is designed to provide clean power solutions with an excellent level of integration and minimum external components. It is also ideal for portable applications, where minimum power and space are of utmost importance. This PMIC – Battery Charger is a versatile and efficient charger/controller that is capable of charging different types of rechargeable batteries.

The MCP73827-4.2VUATR has a wide range of application fields. It can be used for charging single Li-Ion/Li-Po cells, such as LiFePO4, LiCd, LiCoO2 and LiMn2O4. In addition, the multi-cell version of the MCP73827-4.2VUATR can be used to charge up to four Li-Ion/Li-Po cells. It is also capable of charging sealed lead acid (SLA) and nickel-metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries. This MCP73827-4.2VUATR controller can be used in a variety of devices, including MP3 players, digital cameras, mobile phones, PDAs and notebook computers. Its high accuracy and low quiescent current make it an ideal choice for devices that require precise power management.

The MCP73827-4.2VUATR is based on a unique charging architecture which provides for highly efficient charging with a low battery voltage setting. The charging current is programmed via a resistor and can be adjusted from 20mA to 500mA. The output voltage can be programmed to 4.2V, 4.1V or 4.0V with a nominal accuracy of ±1%. The charger also includes overcurrent, short circuit and overvoltage protections, as well as a load disconnect feature to prevent overcharge of the battery. The charger circuitry is optimized for minimal external components, resulting in a very simple solution for battery charging.

The MCP73827-4.2VUATR also offers a low quiescent current of 2µA at no load conditions. It supports various battery chemistry detection, such as NiCd, NiMH, Li-Ion and Li-Ion/Li-Po, with a high accuracy of ±2% in the battery voltage detection. This provides a precise control of the charging parameters. The MCP73827-4.2VUATR is designed to operate over an input voltage range of 2.7V to 5.5V and is available in a 10-pin kSOIC package.
