PBSS2515YPN/ZLX is a range of complementary NPN–PNP Darlington Transistor Arrays from Diodes Incorporated. It offers low saturation voltage, fast switching speed, low collector–emitter saturation voltage, and low thermal resistance, making them a suitable choice for power switching, motor control and switching amplifier power supply circuits. The device is offered in a small SOT13 package, which make it also suitable for automotive and industrial control applications.
The PBSS2515YPN/ZLX device is designed to provide high output current plus high input impedance and low-level signal switching in a single package. The device consists of a complementary Darlington NPN–PNP transistor array, consisting of two high gain NPN transistors, two PNP transistors and a Zener diode. In addition, the device also includes an integrated resistor, which provides a current limiting feature, reducing the risk of device over-temperature failure. This integrated resistor also eliminates the need for an external current limiting resistor.
The device features a minimum breakdown voltage of 17.4V and a maximum DC collector current rating of 1A. It also has a low saturation voltage of 500mV when operated at 1.5A. Additionally, the device has a relatively low LED collector-emitter voltage drop of 1.2V when used in boost circuits.
In terms of operation, the PBSS2515YPN/ZLX design utilizes the Darlington principle, where two NPN or two PNP transistors are arranged in a cascading manner and connected in parallel. This allows the input current to be passed through one set of transistors, which causes the second set of transistors to be turned on at the same time. The result is that the second set of transistors amplifies the output current by a larger amount than can be achieved with a single transistor. In addition, the device is also designed to minimize crossover distortion and reduce device stress caused by large DC currents.
