Permanent Magnet Direct Drive(PMDD) 10/Zero Length Field (ZLF) application field and working principle, commonly known as PMD10/ZLF, is an attractive high-efficiency compact technology which combines the advantages of both brushless and permanent magnet direct drives, leading to greater power density and reliability than systems without permanent magnets. The field winding is located around the core of the PMD10/ZLF motor and it in turn produces a magnetic field. The armature windings are located within the field windings. The relative motion between the field winding and the armature windings causes a voltage to be induced in the armature windings. The voltage in the armature windings then performs the driving action. In order to allow a continuous supply of power to the motor, the current in the field winding must be constantly varied, as it is the current in the field winding that is responsible for the speed of the motor.
