STEVAL-ILH005V2 supports two different power supply topologies—DC/DC current-driven Boost converter and SEPIC. This evaluation platform enables a comprehensive exploration of existing and emerging LED lighting technologies including various dimming techniques. It features power stages and control ICs—integrated drivers, sophisticated digital controllers, and the flexibility of the Evaluation Software Suite, all in a single compact board.

The evaluation board is equipped with three DC/DC LED drivers and one String LED driver. The current-driven Boost topology enables the application of higher voltages, resulting in higher power efficiency compared to the conventional constant voltage configuration. The SEPIC topology on the other hand is suitable for applications operating in different input voltage ranges.

The STEVAL-ILH005V2 boardalso incorporates precise current sensing technology on the LED strings, allowing it to monitor the current to ensure accuracy and reliability of each LED string. It also supports variousdiming techniques including Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), Phase Shift, and Phase Cut Dimming as well as digital control through an I2C bus interface.

The STEVAL-ILH005V2 Evaluation Board includes the STEVAL-ILL022V2 Digital Controller Board as well as the STEVAL-ILL022V2 Microcontroller Board. The Digital Controller Board is connected to the Microcontroller Board to form an integrated solution. The microcontroller board, based on Atmel’s AVR microcontroller, controls the DC/DC LED drivers and the String LED driver through data communication and a series of commands via the I2C master.

The STEVAL-ILH005V2 board provides engineers with the ability to evaluate and experiment with a variety of LED lighting solutions. It can be used to develop and test design concepts for LED lighting solutions, analyze different dimming techniques, and evaluate the performance of the system.
