The STEVAL-IPE015V1 is equipped with two each of current and voltage sensors, which are used to measure the input power, control the power cross-correction of the meter, and provide information on neutral current and harmonic content. It also incorporates a unique Hall effect current sensor which is used to measure AC current and AC voltage, without the need for any additional components as found in traditional solutions. The PSoC 5LP processor core allows for easy programming and development support for creating a customized energy metering application.

The working principle of the STEVAL-IPE015V1 is as follows: when the input currents and voltages are applied to the board, they are measured by the current and voltage sensors and then passed to the PSoC 5LP processor. The processor then performs a digital signal processor (DSP) operation on the incoming data to calculate the power values, and calculate the total power being consumed by the meter. Additionally, it also performs energy management functions such as power cross-correction, neutral current monitoring, and harmonic content analysis. The resulting data is then outputted in a digital or analog format, allowing the user to evaluate the performance of the energy meter.
