The TNY276PG is a PWM-controlled offline AC/DC converter which operates in buck topology. This type of circuit is a common switch-mode topology used to deliver up to two outputs that are isolated and voltage controlled. The TNY276PG consists of primary-side circuitry such as line frequency detection, power factor correction, safety-related features and secondary-side circuitry including bridge rectification, output filters, regulation and protection features. The application of the TNY276PG includes consumer, consumer-related, industrial and automotive systems.
The TNY276PG features a quasiresonant or discontinuous operation to switch the load from the rectified AC voltage from the wall-socket. This switching process is completed with a fixed frequency controlled by the internal PWM (pulse width modulation) controller.
The switching process begins with a voltage level change that occurs across the power MOSFET. During the on-time portion of the switching cycle, the current will flow through the power MOSFET. As the power MOSFET is switched off, the voltage across the power MOSFET increases to the level of the voltage source and then decaying down to zero. During the off-time portion of the switching cycle, the load current is delivered from the output capacitor. This process causes the power MOSFET to act as an it switch which controls the voltage at the output.
The TNY276PG has a wide range of applications which include motor control, LCDs, LED displays, and other light sources. The device also supports a wide range of switching frequencies which can scale up to a few megahertz. The primary output can deliver up to 40W of power while the secondary output delivers up to 25W.
