TNY256G-TL is a highly integrated family of fixed-frequency pulse-width modulated (PWM) current-mode control ICs designed to meet the needs of environmentally friendly, cost-effective and high-performance offline AC/DC power conversion solutions. It belongs to PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers.
The TNY256G-TL is designed to deliver excellent performance in off-line primary switch mode power supply solutions, such as Power Factor Correction (PFC) in fixed-frequency Switch Mode Power Supplies (SMPS). It features a built-in programmable low dropout (LDO) controller that allows designs to reduce power dissipation, power loss and thermal losses. With a simple programming interface, the TNY256G-TL can easily be adapted to different bus voltages and power levels.
In addition to its excellent performance, the device offers several important safety features including over-voltage, over-current and thermal protection. The device also offers dual-level over-current protection (OCP), short-circuit protection (SCP), brown-out protection (BOP) and power-down protection. The device also has an adjustable switching frequency, enabling efficient and flexible regulation of the power supply.
The working principle of TNY256G-TL is based on pulse-width modulation (PWM) current-mode control. When the device is enabled, it senses the AC input voltage and generates a pulse-width modulated (PWM) oscillatory waveform to drive the primary switch. The output voltage of the primary switch is then sensed and regulated by the feedback control loop. By varying the width of the pulses, the output voltage of the power supply is regulated.
The TNY256G-TL features integrated programmable features such as a switching frequency, adjustable current limit, adjustable over-voltage protection voltage, soft-start, and programmable protection level. The TNY256G-TL also includes comprehensive diagnostics, such as Valley/Maximum current limit, Over-voltage/Under-voltage/Over-temperature protection and a power-saver mode. It also offers a wide range of options, such as temperature compensation, programmable loss of regulation and spread spectrum mode options.
