TNY254GN-TL Working Principle
The TNY254GN-TL’s works on the principle of power conversion from AC power to DC power. In this conversion process, voltage transformation, rectification and filtering, and DC regulation are all performed within the device. Figure 1 illustrates the working principle of the TNY254GN-TL.

The TNY254GN-TL combines an EcoSmart Flyback topology, with an integrated startup circuit together with an optimized primary-side control, allowing it to be easily designed into an isolated flyback without requiring the use of an optocoupler or an auxiliary winding. The integrated circuit seamlessly combines the power switch, the power supply controller, the oscillator, and a wide range of protection features, making for an extremely compact design.
The TNY254GN-TL’s startup section drives the oscillator capacitance to begin oscillation, setting up the circuit and allowing the output voltage to begin rising. As current flows through the oscillator capacitor, it charges and the frequency of oscillation increases. As the output voltage begins to increase, the output voltage feedback is coupled to the power supply controller and optically-isolated bi-directional feedback is provided to the primary side of the circuit. This feedback loop is used to maintain the output voltage, allowing for very tight regulation across a wide range of line and load conditions.
The TNY254GN-TL also integrates several protection features to ensure safe and reliable operation of the device. These include Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Current Protection (OCP), Short Circuit Protection (SCP), and Thermal Shutdown Protection (TSD).
