TNY288PG is an integrated offline switcher and an AC-DC converter IC with Primary Side Regulation (PSR) technology. With an integrated 800V MOSFET, this device offers improved performance and scalability with less component count. The device contains an integrated current-mode power supply control with self-biasing and an under-voltage lockout to ensure reliable start-up.

Application Field

The TNY288PG is optimal for off-line primary-side regulated isolated and non-isolated flyback and forward converters, used in consumer and industrial alike applications and especially designed for charging of consumer/industrial batteries and for lighting applications. It is ideal for LED functionality, dimmable LED lamps and hot plug-in applications.

Working Principle

The system operates in discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) with walk-in mode for light load condition. The TNY288PG is used together with an external MOSFET, opto-coupler and less peripheral components, which offers a simple and compact BOM solution. The device is capable of up to 40W of output power and is protected against open loop failures with Keep Alive (KA) feature.

The operational control of the TNY288PG is regulated by a dedicated Optical Proportionate Control (OPC) loop. It is a stepless control loop with no setting of minimum on-time, uses constant frequency control. The OPC loop has fast transient response and can compensate up to 4A peak load variation without any external components.

The under voltage lock-out (UVLO) of the TNY288PG is set-up by an adjustable voltage detector (VDD) with an hysteresis from 2.5V up to 20V. The minimum on-time (Ton_min) is preset to 800ns and works in line with the over temperature protection (OTP). The OTP prevents permanent damages and latch-off issue in case of sustained overload.
