Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs) are a class of integrated circuits used for the efficient management and conversion of energy sources. In BM operation, the VIPER011LS switches the power transistor at a constant frequency (e.g. 100kHz) and with a fixed duty cycle, thus providing a constant output frequency and a controllable output voltage. The BM operation allows the internal oscillator to be synchronized with an external clock signal, thus providing greater stability and improved EMI performance.The VIPER011LS is an offline switcher, which works by operating in CCM when the load is light (e.g. below its selected peak current) and in BM when the load is heavy (e.g. above its selected peak current). This helps the VIPER011LS to achieve higher efficiency by operating in CCM at a reduced frequency. The VIPER011LS can also be configured to operate with hysteretic current regulation, thus improving the output voltage accuracy.To ensure reliable operation, the VIPER011LS has several protective functions such as overvoltage protection (OVP), overcurrent protection (OCP), and thermal protection (OTP). The OVP limits the output voltage to a safe level, protecting the converter from excessive load.
