PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline Switchers The VIPER27HD is an extremely efficient monolithic integrated circuit PWM switcher developed by STMicroelectronics, extensively optimized for high-density, power density, and system cost. It is the most suitable choice for offline and DC-DC converters operating in harsh environments and working in a range of power supplies from 374V to 500V. The VIPER27HD application field mainly covers several types of offline and DC-DC converter circuits, such as LED lighting, AC-DC converters, Adapters, SMPS, offline switching power supplies, motor control, etc. Its robustness, low loss and power density design make it one of the most competitive products in its segment. The VIPER27HD integrates several functional blocks, such as a power MOSFET, a PWM controller, a current limitation circuit, an active clamping circuit, an auto restart, a soft start and much more. The VIPER27HD\'s working principle is based on the Control and Gate circuit, which is dedicated to generating the PWM pulse by comparing the external reference and the output voltage. The PWM pulse can then be used to control the power switch of the converter. The power switch is a MOSFET which is turned on and off at fixed frequency. During the on period the inductor current is increased while in the off period the output voltage is regulated by the diode, the capacitor, and the inductor.The current limitation circuit limits the current in the MOSFET to lower than the peak current to reduce EMI and catch the high peak current spikes. The active clamp circuit regulates the overvoltage stress and the auto restart circuit ensures that the power supply can keep a steady output voltage when a fault happens. When the fault current reaches a threshold value, the VIPER27HD will start the restarting process.The VIPER27HD\'s energy saving mode can be entered when there is no load applied, the low-power section is able to reduce the switcher to standby mode operation and further save energy.With its wide applications, multiple features and high reliability, the VIPER27HD has become a popular choice for wide range of small and medium-sized offline and DC-DC converters used in consumer and industrial applications.
