PMIC, or Power Management ICs, are components used to manage and regulates the power supply for electronic devices. They help to maximize efficiency and minimize power dissipation. One type of PMIC is the AC DC Converter, which changes alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). The VIPER15LDTR is a low-input differential current-mode analog PWM controller that provides excellent no-load power consumption and high power efficiency. This allows for a wide range of operating frequencies from 25 kHz to 600 kHz and programmable switching frequency accuracy with temperature compensation.

The VIPER15LDTR can be configured to work in either a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) or a continuous conduction mode (CCM). In DCM, the transformer core is not saturated and there may be more voltage variation according to the load. It is best suited for light loads where efficiency is not a primary concern. In CCM, the transformer core is always saturated, allowing for better current regulation and better efficiency even under light loads. However, it can cause increased electromagnetic interference (EMI) due to higher current peaks.

The primary side of the VIPER15LDTR IC can be connected to the mains supply by the input terminal of the rectifier, while the secondary side can be connected to the power device which can be an applicator, a motor or any other load. The IC monitors the voltage and current across the primary side of the transformer, calculates for the difference and adjusts the pulse widths appropriately. Thus, the device is able to deliver the required load current and maintain a constant output voltage, making it ideal for power factor correction applications.

The VIPER15LDTR also offers over voltage and under voltage protection with the help of the fast sensing and regulation from the controller. It can also detect short circuit fault conditions and provide current limit protection.
