The VIPER16LD is a high-performance and ultra-low-power integrated circuit designed for applications such as Power Management, AC-DC Converters, Offline Switchers and other off-line DC-DC power supply circuits. This device features a dedicated low-power shutdown to reduce the power consumption at rest, a small usage area and an external microcontorller for the various control functions. The VIPER16LD is an ideal choice for cost-sensitive and low-power applications.
The VIPER16LD is based on an advanced arhitecture aimed at delivering high efficiency and low power dissipation. The unique power management capabilities of the device enable low operating power as well as high efficiency when compared to other solutions. The VIPER16LD has high peak current capabilities and efficient regulation of the output currents up to high output voltages and currents. The device also has a dedicated boost switching circuit for improved regulation and response time.
The VIPER16LD is designed to operate in a range of different applications and the output voltage can be programmed easily using the on-chip controller. The device has optimized frequency control and power scaling functions which facilitate the realization of offline switchers and AC-DC converters with very high power density and efficiency. The design is simple and the switching losses are kept low while the output voltage is accurately regulated.
The VIPER16LD features two synchronous buck converter channels allowing for total solution flexibility. The device has a built-in Digital Power System Manager (DPSM) for configuring and monitoring power system operations. This allows the device to be easily integrated into the micro controller environment. The device also features peak current mode control, adjustable slope compensation and soft-start for improved load transient performance. The current sensing and over-voltage protection circuitry ensure system reliability and fault tolerance.
The VIPER16LD also offers a wide input voltage range from 7V to 48V. The device offers a very low operating current of 8µA in standby mode and can support a wide range of load currents from 0.5A to 5A. The output voltage range is adjustable from 0.7V to 93.8V. The device also has a very fast response time of less than 10µs, allowing for accurate transient control. The device features a soft-start circuit allowing for smooth start-up and prevention of inrush current.
The VIPER16LD is designed with a novel architecture allowing for paralleled operation of the two channels and thereby providing increased current rating and fast response. The device also features advanced protection features such as over-temperature, over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protection. The device also offers several diagnostic capabilities such as current limit check, output voltage readback and fault detection.
The VIPER16LD provides a high-performance and low-power solution for both AC-DC and offline switchers.
