PMIC (power management integrated circuits) are a key element of any electronics device, allowing manufacturers to integrate more levels of power management into a single chip to reduce size, complexity, and cost. In addition, the device includes integrated over-voltage and under-voltage protection (through an external resistor voltage divider) and short-circuit protection, as well as a periodical line voltage boost capability.
The Viper50 ASP works by taking in an AC input voltage and then converting it to a DC voltage. This process begins in the power factor correction stage, where the AC input voltage is rectified, followed by a boost stage and a DC-DC transfer stage. The Power Factor Control (PFC) stage has a voltage hysteresis, which ensures the accuracy of the line regulation accuracy within 3% of maximum output power.
