PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) in the application of electronic products have a very broad market, it can realize the smooth switching between power supply, stable power supply and other functions. PMIC is generally divided into three categories: Supervisors, Controllers and Regulators. Among them, Supervisors is the most common and widely used type, which provides the voltage, current stability and fault protection needed in many applications. X5325S8 is one of the highly integrated Supervisors IC, it can be used in consumer electronics, motor drives, security applications, etc.

The X5325S8, is an ultra-low-power supervisor IC from Exar Corporation. It is specifically designed to monitor and protect modern battery-operated applications with an ultra-low quiescent current of only 0.25uA. It offers robust monitoring of two discrete voltages and a battery stack, and has two power-fail comparators for accurate comparisons over a wide range of devices voltages and load currents. X5325S8 also provides multiple reset outputs that support varying reset specifications and timing requirements. In addition, a programmable watchdog timer and an adjustable POR (Power On Reset) are both available on chip.

X5325S8 is equipped with a precision band gap reference and input voltage range from 2.2V to 5.5V which makes it suitable for a variety of power supply applications. X5325S8 has two adjustable voltage monitor thresholds, one being 0.6075V and other being 1.4V. The 0.6075V setting is suitable for monitoring low-voltage supply rails, such as a 1-cell Li-Ion battery-charger and the 1.4V setting being used for high-voltage system supplies. X5325S8 also has an adjustable power-fail comparator that can be used with a voltage reference or a voltage divider. This provides an accurate comparison with independent over and under voltage trip points. It also offers a maximum 2.2V reference voltage that can be adjusted by the internal resistor.

The X5325S8 has a low-power reset/reset output mode that allows it to be used as a system watchdog timer. The reset/reset output mode is triggered by the Watchdog timer limit, which can be adjusted from 14ms to 667ms to suit different system operational requirements. The Watchdog timer is reset by pulses from the system controller and can be configured to reset the system controller or POR the device when the limit is reached. Furthermore, the POR can be set for 1.4V or 2.4V with a selectable 1ms to 25S delay. All the above features make the X5325S8 a great choice for protecting battery-operated microprocessor-based systems.

The working principle of X5325S8 is to monitor two external voltage supply levels, battery to system supply, and a separate circuit power input. Once either of these two supply voltages drops below their pre-set thresholds, X5325S8 will issue a reset signal to the circuit. On the other hand, if the circuit fails to reset the Watchdog after a certain time period, the POR pin will be triggered, resetting the entire system. In addition, X5325S8 can also check the battery voltage of a single cell Li-Ion battery or an external power supply with an adjustable threshold.

In conclusion, X5325S8 is an advanced and highly integrated IC that can precisely monitor multiple voltage supplies and provide low-power reset/reset output for a variety of applications.
