2N3442 Transistor is one of the most common types of transistor used in various applications. It is a single Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) with a PNP (positive-negative-positive) characteristic. It was created to be used in low-power circuits and its low-voltage feature is suitable for this purpose. It is commonly used in amplifier and switching circuits.This transistor is manufactured with a collector-base breakdown voltage (BVCBO) of 40 volts and a collector-emitter breakdown voltage (BVCEO) of 40 volts with a collector current of 300mA. The collector-emitter voltage (VCE) needed to operate is typically 4V. The base-emitter cutoff voltage (BVEBO) is 9V while the current gain (β) rating is typically 160. The maximum power dissipation (PD) rating is .625 watts, and the maximum operating temperature is calculated at 100° C.The working principle of the 2N3442 transistor is straightforward. It does its job by allowing or blocking current flow from the collector to emitter. When current flows through this transistor, it is regulated by voltage differences between the emitter and base. When a small current enters the base, it emits electrons which activate the base-emitter P-N junction. These electrons cause conduction between the collector and emitter while the voltage difference is maintained between these parts.In this type of transistor, an electrically neutral region is formed between the base and collector by the injection of electrons.
