Working Principle
The ADIS16477-2/PCBZ IMU is a 3-axis gyro-accel-magneto sensor which makes highly accurate motion estimations possible. The IMU is composed of three acceleration sensors (gyroscopes), three magnetometers, and two accelerometers. The sensor is able to detect and measure linear and angular acceleration in two three-dimensional planes in order to accurately estimate an object’s rotational orientation and translation in the world frame.
The gyroscopes provide angular rate measurements in two planes. This allows for the estimation of orientation and movement of an object in the world frame. The accelerometers read the gravitational force which acts upon the object, enabling the measurement of linear acceleration. Finally, the magnetometers measure the magnetic field in the environment, allowing the sensor to make highly accurate determinations of an object’s position in the world frame. The combination of the three components of the sensor makes the ADIS16477-2/PCBZ an effective tool for accurate motion estimation.
