The working principle of the APT1231A is quite simple. The signal from the transmitter is isolated from the receiver through an air gap. The input transistor will be activated and activating the edge mount NPN output transistor to drives an SCR (silicon controlled rectifier) or triac (triode for alternating current), which allows a safe and easy regulation of large AC load.The edge mount NPN output transistor features a high voltage capacity, fast switching and low-on resistance, which makes it especially suitable for high voltage AC load. The SCR or triac control a large AC load where the control input is mostly a low voltage or current signal. This makes it ideal for applications where AC loads need to be safely regulated through a small control signal.Also, the high isolation provided by APT1231A between the signal and voltage level effectively reduces the possibility of interference between circuits especially for applications with high voltage AC load.Basic installation requirements
