The DMG264020R is a high-density, low-voltage, digitally controlled, pre-biased array of 16BJT transistors designed for use in industrial and portable applications. It combines the advantages of both ICs and BJT arrays, providing a low-cost solution for electronic applications requiring multiple channels of switching. The DMG264020R has a built-in low-voltage, pre-biased array of sixteen BJT transistors, each with an individual current limit which can be modulated by means of a positive logic control voltage. This allows for the array current to be selectively adjusted for multiple functions.
The application field for DMG264020R is broad, ranging from portable devices such as cell phones, PDA\'s and MP3 players, to industrial applications including static relays, switching circuits, motor controllers, and LCD backlighting applications. This device is also suitable for mixed-signal designs, providing protection in power control, noise cancellation, and switching applications.
The working principle of the DMG264020R is as follows. The array consists of 8 channels of transistors and each channel is individually controlled by an individual logic control voltage. The logic voltage is applied to the base of each of the 16 Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) in the array. When a logic voltage is applied, the voltage from the base to the emitter of the BJT sets the current through the transistor’s collector-emitter (C-E) path. As the logic control voltage increases, more current flows through the transistor and lower voltage on the collector. To control the array current, the logic voltage for each transistor is individually set. The combination of the current limits for each transistor in the array sets the total array current.
As the array current is increased by logic control, the voltage at the collector of the BJT reduces and the voltage at the collector of the array increases. This increasing voltage at the collector of the array sets the decreasing voltage at the collector of each of the BJTs. The total array current is proportional to the individual transistor current and can be modulated by controlling the logic voltage. Once the logic voltage reaches a certain threshold, the array current is clamped and will not increase further.
The DMG264020R is constructed on a small form factor PCB with eight low voltage pre-biased NPN transistors mounted into a single package, allowing for a reduction in assembly time and cost. The sixteen BJTs are connected in series to reduce the voltage across each individual transistor, providing a higher overall current handling capability. The DMG264020R is also equipped with an integrated thermal protection circuit, which prevents excessive current by shutting off individual transistors in case of an overload.
The DMG264020R is an ideal device for low voltage applications where space and cost savings are crucially important. This device provides the robustness of integrated circuits with the flexibility of BJT transistors.
