Power management integrated circuits (PMIC) provide system designers with a convenient method of managing, controlling and optimizing the vast array of voltages and power levels present in modern devices. PMICs specifically designed for the purpose of power distribution switching, and load drivers are categorized as Power Distribution Switches, and Load Drivers (IPS031S).
The IPS031S is a low on-resistance, low-power non-inverting power distribution switch with a low quiescent current of 1uA. It is fabricated with advanced sub 6-V process and is protected from ESD up to 3KV. This device also features an integrated level shift for switching external loads up to 3.5 V. Typical applications for the IPS031S include, but are not limited to, data signal relays, dc-dc converters, portable battery-operated systems, portable medical and industrial equipment.
The IPS031S is a non-inverting switch that has a maximum operating voltage of 26V, with an on-resistance of 24 milliohms. The device features an integrated level shift of VDD to VIN, which enables the switch to drive external loads up to 3.5V. The integrated level-shift also allows the switch to operate with a high input voltage, leading to a further reduction in power dissipation. The low on-resistance of the device, combined with it’s low quiescent current, enables it to operate with virtually no power dissipation and a low output voltage. Additionally, the IPS031S features a wide operating temperature range of -40cC to +85C.
The working principle of the ICS031S is based on a MOSFET power switch, which is used to transfer power from one circuit to another. A control signal is applied to the gate of the MOSFET switch, which is used to toggle it between on and off states. When the switch is on, current flows from the VDD pin to the load, enabling it to be powered. When the switch is off, no current is drawn from the VDD pin and the load is isolated from the circuit. The IPS031S also features an integrated level-shift, which allows the switch to operate with a higher input voltage than the load voltage.
