IR2112 Application Field and Working Principle

The IR2112 PMIC (power management integrated circuit) is a three-terminal device with a gate driver stage, which is typically used for system power control applications. IR2112 provides logic-level capability for applications such as field-effect transistors (FETs), bipolar transistors (BIPs), triacs, thyristors, switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), and power-controlled switching applications. It combines the benefits of several isolated power supplies to bring low-cost and flexible solutions to power management and control applications.

Applications of IR2112 PMIC

IR2112 PMIC has been used in a variety of power control applications, such as switch-mode power supplies (SMPS), motor control, welding, dimming, energy meters, relay and contactors, and general power switches. It also has the ability to work in a wide range of temperature/voltage environments, including industrial, automotive and military. Furthermore, due to its small size, IR2112 can be easily integrated into other power control circuits, making it ideal for applications where cost and space are critical. In addition, it is easily programmable, with adjustable parameters available for major functions like supply voltage, delay, turn on/off timing, overcurrent protection, and temperature sensing.

Working Principle of IR2112 PMIC

The IR2112 PMIC gate driver consists of two main sections, the driver section and the control section. The driver section has two MOS transistors (source and gate) that drive the power load. The control section consists of three main components, namely a high voltage signal generator, a slew-rate controlling circuit, and a signal isolation circuit. In order to regulate the power supply voltage to the load, a signal is sent through the signal isolation circuit and connected to the gate of the MOS transistor in the driver section, adjusting the power supply as required. This signal is then used to control the connection and disconnection of the load which ultimately results in controlling the load current. When the load voltage is too high, a current monitor circuit in the IR2112 PMIC senses the overvoltage and the current monitor circuit will disconnect the load, thus protecting it from further damage. The overcurrent protection circuit will also disconnect the load when the overcurrent reaches a predetermined level.The IR2112 PMIC also supports a wide range of operating voltages, from 1.8 to 24 V, and can be adjusted for different temperatures. With its small size and low power consumption, the IR2112 PMIC provides a cost-effective, reliable and space-saving solution for a variety of power control applications.
