IR2114SSPBF is a voltage driver product of the PMIC (power management integrated circuit) Gate Drivers family. It is a dual high- and low-side gate driver which is designed to drive N-channel MOSFETs or IGBTs in high voltage applications up to 600V. This chip features a low total power dissipation of 0.5W, so it will hardly cause any voltage drops when powered.The IR2114SSPBF has a wide selection of features that make it suitable for many applications. It has an advanced On-state current sensing as well as over current, overload, short-circuit and shoot-through protection. It has independent fault pin for each channel for faster protection. Moreover, it has an internal thermal protection and under voltage lockout.Some of the most common application fields where IR2114SSPBF is used include general purpose and high-voltage motor control; power line carrier applications, UPS systems, lighting ballast and linear LED lighting.The IR2114SSPBF operates at two stages: the pre-drive stage, in which the gate voltage of both high and low side switches is raised to an intermediate voltage level, and the drive stage, in which the switches are driven to their final state. The pre-drive stage ensures less power loss, faster switching, and a reduced EMC interference.In the pre-drive stage, the signal received by the IC is first converted to the intermediate signal by a driver stage booster. This booster amplifies the signal output, which is then fed to the gate driver circuit of each channel respectively. The gate driver circuit then drives the upper and lower parts of the high/low side switch components with the predefined voltage.The drive stage follows the pre-drive stage and it has two parts: an upper gate driver stage and a lower gate driver stage. In the upper gate driver stage, the upper switch component is driven directly from the output of the pre-drive stage. In the lower gate driver stage, the lower switch component is driven from the intermediate voltage level output coming from the pre-drive stage through a driver stage boosting circuit.In summary, the IR2114SSPBF is a dual high and low side gate driver for high voltage applications up to 600V. It has excellent pre-drive and drive stages which allow for faster switching, reduced EMC interference and less power loss. Moreover, it has advanced protection functions and is suitable for many applications such as motor control, power line carrier, UPS systems and lighting applications.
