The IRDCIP1201-A off-line SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) is an evaluation board designed to evaluate the performance of the numerous isolated DC/DC and AC/DC power supply modules. These power modules step-up/step-down off-line voltages from any DC input dimensions near their rated load performance in a wide range of commercial, industrial, and military applications.
The power module has a power rating of up to 12W and is ideal for use in a wide range of applications and applications-specific architectures such as distributed power systems and Point-of-Load systems. The IRDCIP1201-A board operates from an input voltage between 10V and 40V and produces 3.3V, 5V, or 12V output depending on the power module selection. The board features built-in circuit protection components such as a controlling MOSFET, fast reverse-recovery diode, and an ESD diode.
The operation principle of the board is based on the simple switching step-down/up converter topology. The power module contains a switch, usually an internal MOSFET or multiple in parallel, which is switched at a certain frequency (or switching frequency) and with an adjustable duty cycle to transfer energy from the input supply to the output. The output is rectified and filtered to provide a regulated and constant-voltage output.
