IRDCIP1203-A is an evaluation board designed specially for on-board DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. It is aimed at providing complete information about the properly working parameters of a particular power converter, as well as efficient system design and validation. This board includes all the components needed for studying switching power supplies and related electrical/electronic circuits.
The evaluation board was designed for off-line, fixed frequency step-down topologies. It features a self-start up under no-load condition, soft start for low in-rush VCC current, accurate output voltage regulation, wide line and load regulation capability, current limiting for over-load protection, as well as over-temperature protection for dissipation and transformer temperature.
The board has an output voltage adjustable from 0~103V and is capable of delivering a rated power up to 250W with a continuous output power of 500W. Moreover, it is highly efficient, with an efficacy rating of 80%. It includes discrete elements on the input side, such as IGBTs, MOSFETs, and Schottky rectifiers and diode rectifiers, as well as magnetics.
In terms of its working principle, the IRDCIP1203-A operates in a synchronous manner employing its integrated topology control circuit. This is enabled by turning on/off the switching MOSFET (main switch) in each switching cycle. The switching frequency is determined by the reset signal generated by the topology control circuit, which is controlled by the saw tooth waveform signal. In order to maintain a correct output voltage, the reset signal must be proportionally adjustable. It also requires a feedback signal from the output of the converter, which is used by the topology control circuit to fine-tune the switching period. The reset signal can be adjusted by means of a variable resistor on the board.
In terms of its application field, the IRDCIP1203-A is suitable for testing high power LED lighting, motor drive applications and any other applications that require driven output beyond 250W.
