IRGP4065DPBF is an insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) module designed by Infineon Technologies. This device comprises of six laterally diffused metal oxide semiconductor (LDMOS) cells and its associated gate-drive circuitry. It is primarily used in air conditioning, oil & gas and transportation applications. The module utilizes the latest-generation low-loss, low-gain National Semiconductor IGBTs with high temperature temperature soldering capability. The IGBTs feature internal over-voltage protection, variable voltage protection and dynamic on-off control.
The IRGP4065DPBF module utilizes a geometry that provides excellent switching performance and superior transient power capabilities. The module features a 3-phase configuration for improved energy efficiency with reduced impedance and high current capability. It is suitable for operation up to 90°C junction temperature with an input voltage of 400 V or less. The module also features a wide range of gate-drive options, flexible fault-handling functions and programmable protection.
In terms of working principle, the IGBT is a three-terminal power semiconductor device which combines the positive temperature coefficient of the BJT with the high input impedance of the Field Effect Transistor (FET). The IGBT works by controlling the voltage applied to the gate-source junction which allows the conduction of current through the transistor. The gate-source voltage creates an electric field in the base region of the device which creates a conductive path for the current. When the voltage across the base-collector junction exceeds the threshold voltage, the path of current flow is blocked and the IGBT is effectively off.
The IRGP4065DPBF module is used in a wide range of applications such as motor drives, solar inverters, industrial automation, UPS systems, hybrid electric vehicles, uninterruptible power supplies, power supplies and more.
