It provides protection against excessive temperature and/or excess charge current by shutting off the power supply when either condition is detected. The controller also provides optional under voltage lockout, which can be used to prevent an over discharge in battery systems.

In addition to providing accurate charging and protection, the ISL6255AHAZ-T also provides power management features to optimize the design for multi-cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer packs. The integrated power switches can be programmed to operate in multiple power stages, allowing the device to efficiently transition between power levels for improved system efficiency. The power switches can be used in a Buck, Buck-Boost, or inverse-buck configuration and are capable of providing up to 12V of output voltage.

The ISL6255AHAZ-T module also features an embedded safety timer to allow the system to resume operation after a timeout period, or automatically shut down and reset when a fault condition is detected. Additionally, an integrated safety reset timer is implemented to ensure a safe shutdown of the system in case of an overcharge or thermal shutdown. The device also supports system restart and programming via an I2C interface.
