The ISL6255AHRZ is a low power CMOS single-cell Li-Ion linear battery charger made by Renesas Electronics. It is specifically designed to be used in portable electronics due to its robust architecture, small size and low power consumption, making it ideal for applications such as mobile phones, wearable and medical IoT devices. The ISL6255AHRZ can charge a single-cell Li-Ion battery to its required charging voltage at currents of up to 1A.

The ISL6255AHRZ is a low power, single cell, linear battery charger that utilizes a charge cycle consisting of three stages. The Pre-Charge stage begins when the battery voltage is below the Pre-Charge Regulation Voltage (PrV) and continues until it reaches the threshold voltage, at which point the Constant Current and the Constant Voltage stages begin.

In the Constant Current (CC) stage, the ISL6255AHRZ will deliver a predefined charging current (as configured through the I_SET pin) to the battery until the programmed end-of-charge voltage (V_CHRG) is reached. During the CC stage, the ISL6255AHRZ monitors the battery voltage and temperature to provide protection against short circuits and overtemperature conditions.

When the V_CHRG voltage is reached, the ISL6255AHRZ will transition to the Constant Voltage (CV) stage, where the charging current is regulated to maintain the battery at a steady voltage until the charge current drops below the programmed I_END threshold.

In the Pre-Charge and Constant Voltage stages, the ISL6255AHRZ provides a constant current limit set by either the I_SET, I_MAX or I_END pins using programmable foldback limits. This prevents excessive current from damaging the battery and ensures safety during the charging process.

The ISL6255AHRZ is an ideal power solution for portable consumer applications due to its low stand-by current and its robust protection features. It is also capable of detecting battery temperature, current and voltage to provide accurate detections of overcharge and over-discharge of batteries, protecting the battery and system.
