The L6382D5TR is a discreet, integrated circuit capable of performing several lighting, ballast functions simultaneously. It combines a 4-channel pre-driver and 4-channel output driver for sinusoidal current control and dc current control, 3-phase rectification, active cable compensation, over-power protection, open-copy protection, short-circuit protection, and various lighting, ballast monitoring functions in a single package.

The L6382D5TR also has a BIST (Built-in Self-Test) feature which allows for an automated self-test process. Using its on-chip voltage sense, current sense and temperature sense, the L6382D5TR can detect and issue alerts when any adverse condition is detected.

The L6382D5TR has a wide variety of diagnostics and protection features, including Current Limiting Protection (CLP), Thermal Protection (TP), Overvoltage Protection (OVP), Turn-On Delay Protection (TODP), Active Cable Compensation (ACC), Voltage Drop Compensation (VDC), Short Circuit Protection (SCP), Open-Circuit Protection (OCP), and Power Mismatch Protection (PMP). The L6382D5TR can also detect input & output voltage and current unmatched, undervoltage & overvoltage, and phase & frequency mismatches. In addition to the diagnostics and protection features, the L6382D5TR has an on-chip voltage and current monitoring circuit which allows for adjustable protection level and diagnostic reporting.

The L6382D5TR also features internal clock division and flexible dimming control, allowing for dimming control in both linear and square wave modes. The on-board analog-to-digital converter allows for conversion of analog signals from the dimming input and output current sense. The L6382D5TR has an on-chip temperature compensation circuitry which enables more accurate current control over temperature. The dimming control range of the L6382D5TR is adjustable to fit different lighting, ballast applications.
