The L6387D is a MOS gate driver intended for use in high current power switch applications. The device also includes an onboard short-circuit detection circuit with a programmable time delay. When an output pin trips, the power switch is disabled and its output is forced to ground. The device also provides an on-board diagnostic circuitry that can monitor the power switch and its operation and generate a PWM-based fault signal if any unwanted conditions—such as short-circuit or leakage—are detected.
