Aluminum electrolytic capacitors, also known as electrolytic capacitors, belong to a special type of capacitors. These special capacitors consist of two aluminum foils with an electrically insulating paper interposed between them. On one of the foil electrodes a thin oxide layer is formed which is the dielectric of the capacitor, while the other side is a perfect electrolyte solution. The electrolyte solution is usually made up of an aqueous solution (e.g. water) combined with sulfuric acid and boric acid. This electrolyte creates a steady flow of electrons between the aluminum electrodes that act like a capacitor and store electrical energy.
