NUCLEO-F401RE is a development board with the main purpose of evaluating the STM32F401RET6 microprocessor from the STM32F4 family. It is part of the STMicroelectronics Nucleo family of prototyping boards and was designed for evaluation and development of software written with ARM Cortex-M4 core. The F401RE board is made in Texas Instruments’ technology - a package featuring multiple embedded controllers, peripherals, memories and processing units.

Working Principle:

The STM32F401RET6 microprocessor is a part of the STMicroelectronics Nucleo family and is based on the STM32F4 Cortex-M4 core. The board was designed for evaluating the ARM Cortex-M4 core and the development of software written with ARM Cortex-M4 core. The F401RE board has been equipped with many components of the STMicroelectronics family. The main components are Flash Memory, SRAM, RTC, Serial Communication Controllers, ADC Peripherals, Timer Modules, Video Decoder, Cryptographic Accelerator, System Bus, Debug Interface, Clock Generators, FIFO, and Signal Handler. The board’s peripherals are all interconnected via the System Bus, which allows the microprocessor to send and receive data from every peripheral. The board also contains numerous debugging features, such as Serial Wire Viewer/Communication Protocol (SWV/SWD), Trace Port Interface Unit (TPIU), and On-Chip Instrumentation (OCI). For safety and reliability, the board is provided by over-current protection, power saving mechanisms, and fail-safe circuitry.

NUCLEO-F401RE also features a USB port and a number of I/O interfaces, allowing the user to connect various external components, such as: sensors, displays, RFID readers, servos, relays, power supplies, and more. The board is powered by a 3.3V voltage source and supports USB 2.0 for communication with the PC. With the on-board debugger, the F401RE board allows the user to program and debug their software efficiently and quickly.
