Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Controllers provide a convenient way of supplying power over a traditional Ethernet connection. This technology makes it easier to implement power sourcing equipment which can deliver up to 100 watts of power over the four pairs of wires. The SI3482-A01-GM is a Power Over Ethernet (PoE) controller that uses a patented Active Feed-Forward control technique to accurately regulate output voltage and current. The SI3482-A01-GM operates in either Continuous or Discontinuous Conduction Mode (DCM) to maintain precise current and voltage regulation. The SI3482-A01-GM is used in applications where an Ethernet controller needs to deliver power over a standard Ethernet cable. It is designed to meet the requirements of PoE+, the IEEE 802.3at Power over Ethernet standard. The SI3482-A01-GM has several features designed to maximize system performance and make it easy to use. It has built-in overcurrent and overvoltage protection, soft-start, and a programmable peak current limit. It also allows for adjustable current drawn from the Ethernet port and includes an integral bridge rectifier to enable positive and negative current draw.The SI3482-A01-GM is built on Silicon Labs\' advanced mixed-signal technology and its Active Feed-Forward control architecture allows it to provide excellent power delivery and dynamic current limiting with a fast turn-on response time. This chip features a programmable current delivery limit that adjusts current delivery as needed to reduce system power consumption and minimize heat dissipation. The chip also includes a low-power shutdown mode that requires only 200µA of current to enable power saving during system standby.The SI3482-A01-GM also has a programmable over-current protection (OCP) and overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit that monitors input and output voltage to protect the system against potentially damaging electrical conditions. It can also detect and accurately detect fault conditions, allowing the system to respond in a controlled manner.The SI3482-A01-GM also includes built-in ESD protection for the power and ground pins, in addition to an on-chip current sense amplifier to accurately measure the system output current and an integrated DC-DC converter to drive the PoE network from the system\'s power supply. This chip is also designed to work in temperature-stressed environments and is capable of operating over a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.In summary, the SI3482-A01-GM provides a reliable and accurate way to deliver power over a traditional Ethernet connection. It is easy to use, includes several features that maximize system performance, and requires much less power than traditional PoE systems.
