The SS9018FBU is an NPN type bipolar junction transistor with a maximum current capacity of 1.0mA. It has an operating temperature range of -55°C to +125°C and a maximum collector-emitter breakdown voltage of 6V. It has an integrally mounted glass passivation layer which increases its reliability and provides improved electrical performance.

The working principle of the SS9018FBU depends on the interaction of the three semiconductor layers within its structure. In the NPN type transistor, the three layers are the emitter, base and collector. The emitter and collector layers are doped with different materials, usually phosphorous and boron. This is done to create an asymmetric electron distribution which gives the transistor its unique operating characteristics.

The base layer is the connecting bridge between the other two layers. Electrons flow from the emitter to the base layer and holes flow from the base to the collector. A voltage is applied over the base-emitter junction to create a small current in the base layer. This small current establishes a strong electric field within the collector-base junction. This electric field is what allows the electrons to flow from the emitter to the collector. As the current in the base increases, the current in the collector also increases, thus providing the amplification effect.

The SS9018FBU also has a low input capacitance which exceeds high frequency performance and an integrated electrostatic protection to avoid breakdown due to an excessive voltage. It is also designed to have a low sensitivity to thermal shock and external mechanical shocks.
