STB5NK52ZD-1 is a single field-effect transistor (FET) sourced by STMicroelectronics. Working Principle

STB5NK52ZD-1 operates on a depletion-mode principle. The transistor consists of three terminals, Drain, Gate and Source, that connect to the drain, gate and source of the MOSFET. The device is initially turned off with a high source voltage relative to the gate voltage. A higher gate voltage can then be applied, which causes a threshold voltage that turns the transistor on. This process is known as threshold voltage biasing.

The device works in two distinct modes: the on state and the off state. In the on state, the MOSFET allows current to flow through its drain and source. The on resistance of the MOSFET is determined by the gate voltage, drain voltage, and the amount of current being driven. In the off state, no current flows through the MOSFET, and the device is turned off. The gate voltage needs to be dropped below the threshold voltage in order to turn off the device.

The STB5NK52ZD-1 is designed to ensure high reliability, with a wide operating temperature range up to 175°C. The device features excellent noise immunity, as well as low on-state resistance for considerable current flow.
