The STGP19NC60SD is a N-Channel enhancement-mode insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) that has a robust, insulated gate structure and fast switching features. Working Principle

The STGP19NC60SD is an N-channel enhancement-mode insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT). It is a three-terminal power switching device with a voltage rating. The IGBT is a vertical structure in which the source and drain are connected directly to the body. An insulated gate is provided at the top of the gate that controls the gate-source junction. The STGP19NC60SD is essentially a cross between a MOSFET and a BJT. It has the large input impedance of a MOSFET and the fast switching characteristics of a bipolar transistor. The STGP19NC60SD is operated in either its enhancement or depletion mode, depending on the bias voltage applied to the gate. These features include short circuit protection, over-current protection, and over-temperature protection. The short circuit protection works by detecting when a short-circuit situation occurs and then shutdowns the IGBT input and output. The over-current protection works by sensing when a predefined current flow has been exceeded and then shutting down the IGBT input and output. In addition, the STGP19NC60SD includes an over-temperature protection that works by detecting when the IGBT junction temperature exceeds a predefined level and then shut down the IGBT input and output.
