The 2SB15990RL is a three terminal transistor operating on the principle of the Base-Collector-Emitter (B-C-E) configuration. The base is connected to voltage supply, the collector is connected to one of the switch contacts and the emitter is connected to the other switch contact. When the base voltage reaches the threshold voltage of the transistor, the current gain of the device is enhanced and it allows the flow of current from collector to the emitter and back. The current flow is kept constant, as the transistor has a hysteresis effect which delays switching from one state to another. As the voltage applied to the base terminal reaches the cut-off voltage, the current flow is cut off and the transistor is disabled.
