2SC5071 Application Field and Working Principle
2SC5071 belongs to the Single Bipolar Junction Transistor (BJT) family. It is a NPN type of transistor with an amplification factor of hFE of up to 300. Its Collector-base breakdown voltage is 120V and its maximum allowed DC current is 500mA. It can be used as an amplifier or a switch in both AC and DC circuits. The 2SC5071 is practically indestructible and has an extremely large reverse current, making it suitable for many applications.
Working Principle
The 2SC5071 consists of three layers – Emitter, Base and Collector. It has an insulated Base which forms an electric junction between the Emitter and Collector. This junction is called a PN junction.
When a current crosses the Base of the transistor, a voltage is generated in the PN junction. This voltage is called the ‘turn-on’ voltage, or the ‘bias voltage’. This voltage attracts and attracts the electrons in the Collector and draws them to the PN junction.
It is this motion of the electrons which creates a current in the junction. This current is either amplified or used to switch a current in the circuit.
