Power Management Integrated Circuit (PMIC) gate drivers are integrated circuits which provide external high currents or high-voltage electric pulses to actuate gate control of certain power transistors. They have become increasingly important in modern power electronics applications due to the widespread usage of insulated-gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) and power metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs) in the control of power electronics circuits in a variety of power electronics applications. The AUIRS2124S gate driver provides dual-channel, low-side and high-side power MOSFET and gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) control in a slim package. Its current handling capability is up to 5A peak and 3A continuous, and its typical output levels are 0–4V for low side and 12–16V for high side. The AUIRS2124S also offers the possibility of two independent output channels.

At a fundamental level, the operation of the AUIRS2124S is quite simple. When the driver is enabled, the current flows through the primary circuit and energizes the MOSFET/IGBT, causing it to turn on. When the driver is disabled, the current falls to zero and the MOSFET/IGBT is forced to turn off. This basic principle is further complicated by the inclusion of additional components such as current sensors, voltage regulators, drivers, and latches.
