The ISL9104AIRUAZ-T is an efficient, high accuracy and high frequency synchronous buck converter, which operates over a wide input voltage range of 3.3V to 17V, and features a wide adjustable output voltage range of 0.8V to 5.5V. ISL9104AIRUAZ-T Working Principle:

The ISL9104AIRUAZ-T utilizes a synchronous buck regulator topology. In a buck regulator, the input voltage is reduced through an energy transferring switch known as MOSFET. This MOSFET will be switched on and off at a given frequency. When the MOSFET is on, the input voltage is applied across the inductor and the output capacitor, and current flows through the circuit. When the MOSFET is switched off, the current stored in the inductor will flow through the diode and to the output capacitor. This process will generate a regulated output voltage across the output capacitor, as long as the MOSFET remains in the on condition. The output voltage can be adjusted through controlling the duty cycle of the MOSFET. This is done by controlling the frequency at which the MOSFET turns on and off, with the use of a Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal.

The ISL9104AIRUAZ-T also features overvoltage protection and over temperature protection. These features protect the power supply from damage due to high voltage or temperature. Overvoltage protection works by monitoring the output voltage, and when it exceeds the set voltage it will shut down the power supply, thus protecting the internal circuitry from damage. Over temperature protection works by monitoring the temperature of the output voltage, and when it reaches the set limit, it will shut down the power supply, thus avoiding damage due to thermal runaway.
