ISL9104IRUDZ-T, a programmable multi-phase regulator, is a DC-DC switching regulator in the PMIC – Voltage Regulators family. It offers an optimized solution for processor core voltage regulation in many situations, such as set-top boxes, routers, gaming consoles, handhelds and other applications where power density, efficiency and stringent reliability requirements are paramount.The combination of excellent current and voltage scaling, high efficiency, low noise and compact packaging make the ISL9104IRUDZ-T an effective solution for high-drain and low-noise applications such as embedded and automotive systems. This kind of device is ideal for a wide range of voltage levels and load conditions, supporting 80A synchronous current draw per phase and ranging from 0.8V to 2.5V, and is highly programmable.The ISL9104IRUDZ-T offers many features making it a better applicable device than discrete solutions. It is capable of independent phase-shedding, reduces number of inductors, increases peak efficiency, supports phase-interleaving for higher efficiency, improves thermal performance, reduces external components count and lowers BOM cost.It eliminates phase-slip and current-balance issues, offers synchronization capabilities and incorporates a low-side NFET driver, operating in a footless, phase-shedding topology that helps reduce noise on sensitive nodes, provides superior current-scaling with up to 9.1% modulation ratio and dynamic ripple adjustment, and adapts to different load conditions automatically.It also supports a wide range of input voltage, from 5V to 38V, and allows the adjustable current-doubling output voltage up to 6V. It includes control optimization, thermal-shutdown protection, three or four phase-output enabling features, and also a standby voltage, which prevents over-current for system power-up issues and low-power applications.The ISL9104IRUDZ-T is designed to drive the power MOSFET. It is compatible with the P-channel and N-channel MOSFETs and it allows for multi-phase control for increased efficiency. To control the MOSFETs, this device uses two-edge modulation and periodic current sharing.The two-edge modulation works by providing short sequence of sequencing current pulses, which accurately controls the output voltage despite different external conditions. The periodic current sharing works by using current sharing signals to divide up the current demand of the phases.This feature allows the output voltage to be adjusted with better resolution and stability, over a wide range of load conditions. ISL9104IRUDZ-T also features ultra-low voltage operation, which allows the device to be used with supply voltage as low as 0.8V.ISL9104IRUDZ-T is an attractive device for many applications in the PMIC – Voltage Regulators family. Its excellent current and voltage scaling, high efficiency, low noise and compact package make it ideal for high-drain and low-noise applications such as embedded and automotive systems. Its wide range of functions, such as two-edge modulation, periodic current sharing, adjustable current doubling and stand-by voltage, make it a great solution for high power applications.
