The IXDN402PI is a highly advanced gate drivers developed primarily by IXYS Corporation, a leading manufacturer specializing in the production of integrated power semiconductors, logic and analog components, and high voltage products. The IXDN402PI contains eight MOSFET drivers that incorporate a proprietary optically coupled method of low on-state resistance optimization. It is optimized for USB 5.0 compliant gate drive applications, providing a simulation safe output current of 4A with a 0.4 Ohm gate resistance for up to 4 gates simultaneously. It also features an adjustable common mode input range between 4V and 18V with lower than 1.1MOhms series resistance. This part also offers a low quiescent current of 20µA and a high frequency capability of 3 MHz. For improved protection, it integrates four independent over-current protection circuits, as well as ESD protection employing a unique diode technology.

The IXDN402PI works by applying a forward input bias current to an optically coupled device, generating a higher forward current at its output side. This process amplifies the input current while controlling the on-state resistance of the MOSFET, thus achieving low resistance switching. The adjustable common mode input range of 4V to 18V ensures proper operation even in the presence of high voltage transients.

In addition, this device also features a thermal protection circuit (TPC) that is implemented by sensing the die temperature. If board components overheat beyond a pre-determined level, the IXDN402PI will shut down all of its outputs in order to limit the amount of thermal energy that goes through it.
