The JS28F640J3D75E is a memory device built on Advanced Micro Devices (AMD)’s 0.18-micron process technology and copper interconnects. It is designed to provide 8 Mbytes of NOR Flash memory in a single package for high reliability, cost-effectiveness, and low power consumption. This product is available in two versions, with the first featuring an 80-pin Plastic Quad-Flat Package (PQFP) form factor, and the second featuring a high density 78-pin Ball Grid Array (BGA) form factor for larger applications.
The memory device can be used in many embedded applications including Industrial Automation, Medical and Healthcare, Automotive, Home Automation/Security, Networking, Data Storage, Television, printers, Computer and Consumer Electronics. The high density package is suitable for industrial applications such as alarm systems, access control and surveillance. The device supports various programming tools, including the standard Intel Firmware Hub (FWH) which is used for low-level programming. Working Principle
The JS28F640J3D75E is a managed-interface memory device, which enables an MCU to access its memory through a few simple bus cycles. It supports 8 programmable regions of NOR Flash, offering read-back and programming operations. The managed interface simplifies memory accesses by allowing the MCU to configure and control the device’s memory regions and timing. The device features two additional buses, a 2-wire Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) and an 8-bit parallel bus (PC/RAM bus). These buses enable the device to meet the needs of various configurations. It also supports up to eight different block writing (SECTORS) or page writing (PAGES) operations.
The device operates in two power modes, one for reads and one for writes. During read operations, the device consumes only 20mA of the power supplied to the core, while during write operations the device consumes a maximum of 320mA. The write time per 8Kbyte (64 Kbits) region is typically 40ms and the programming time per 512-bit block is typically 32μs. This device supports fast TTL-driven SelectMAPTM (Serial Multi-Purpose) program and data bus scheme, which allows the device to communicate with the microcontroller through a serial data transfer.The device supports both smooth and redirected areas, allowing the user to rearrange the memory subsystem by controlling firmware, software and hardware parameters. In redirected areas, any memory region can be read and written depending on where the CS signal is connected. This allows the user to support applications with different memory map and software configurations.
