LM5106MM/NOPB Application Field and Working PrincipleThe LM5106MM/NOPB is a precise gate driver for high-speed MOSFETs and IGBTs from Texas Instruments, often used in high-power automotive and communications applications such as full bridge and half bridge gate drivers, PFC (power factor correction), and high-speed data link communications.The LM5106MM/NOPB was designed to provide precise half-bridge and full-bridge gate drive levels with high rise-times, fast turn-off rates, and low quiescent current. With its precise gate drive capability, it also eliminates the need for an external voltage shifter, and makes it easier to design higher power circuits. The device also provides a thermal shutdown and an adjustable overcurrent protection capability.The LM5106MM/NOPB is a high-speed gate driver designed to drive high-side and low-side gates of both MOSFETs and IGBTs. The driver features a fast slew rate of 5 μs and low propagation delay, has a temperature range of -40 to 125 °C, and supports a variety of gate configurations (including two half-bridge, three half-bridge, four half-bridge, and full bridge devices). The LM5106MM/NOPB can operate in both push-pull and open-drain modes, and can adjust the output voltage level for compatibility with various voltage levels, such as 5V, 10V, 15V, or 20V.The LM5106MM/NOPB is designed to be easy to use, featuring an adjustable over-current protection and an adjustable thermal shutdown, as well as protection diodes to minimize ESD damage. The device also has an active support pin to minimize DC bias on the output and to help prevent false triggering of the device due to parasitic ringing. It has an output voltage range of 0 to 100V, a turn-on time of 3 μs, and a turn-off time of 8 μs. This active-charge current is then integrated over time to create an output voltage that is proportional to the PWM input. In the output stage, the voltage created by the control stage is then filtered and converted into a pulsing output gate driver. This gate driver drives the gate of the MOSFET or IGBT with a fast turn-on and turn-off time.
