Application field of LM5114BSD/NOPB are mainly available in professional power management domains such as server, storage and powering PC peripheral applications. It is a tool for system designers and application engineers to have a flexible and easy to use solution for controlling their power topologies in their designs. LM5114 is a three phase single high side gate driver IC. It is ideal for integrated power management (IPM), motor control and other applications that require a wide supply range, low-EMI robust gate drive circuit and low cost. As for its working principle, LM5114 has an advanced on-chip digital power management architecture. It provides full compatibility with various on-state, off-state, over temperature and other fault signal management of the system. It is designed to work with the appropriate digital CMOS logic level signal to drive the high side switches at levels set by the user. It offers excellent signal rate performance, low output parasitic and logic level control.

The LM5114 can be used in a wide range of industrial motor control applications such as defrost pumps and refrigeration/air-conditioning systems, or other failure causing applications that require monitoring of fault signals, on-state and off-state conditions, over temperature and other fault signals. Its advanced digital power management architectures provide for enhanced robustness and intelligent fault management. The LM5114 gate driver is powered by a 48-V unregulated supply, providing a wide supply range from ±5 V to ±48 V, making it suitable for industrial applications that require a wide supply range and low-EMI. It can also be used in automotive applications since it provides three competitive fault signals, OC, CLK and RT, that enables control module monitoring of fault conditions.

The LM5114 is designed to drive high side switches in a full bridge configuration, with 2 independent logic levels. It provides high-side outputs that are linked to the logic inputs, allowing low-current gate switching and a low switching threshold. The maximum output voltage can reach up to 60 V, and the output is up to 2 A with an internal 4.7 Ohms current limit. The low-EMI codes also allow the user to easily control the switching muxes and internals of the IC, allowing for a fast and robust control scheme.

The LM5114 features fast propagation times and high output—allowing the logic input to control up to three independent high—side switches. It also has a current limiting circuit with adjustable current limiting and over current protection. The adjustable external current limit allows the user to adjust the current limit to optimize the performance of the system for the specific configuration.

The LM5114 provides direct support for enabling voltage and current read-back from the device. With the read-back feature enabled, the input and output voltage and current can be monitored by connected control modules, allowing for further monitoring of the system performance. In addition, the LM5114 includes an optional sleep mode and an active low power mode both of which improves system efficiency and operational noise levels.
